The Essence of Spiritual Formation

- A reminder to God's children
by Dr Lee Bee Teik
(99 pages, ~ 5x8 inches)
First Print: August 2022.

Note: The author, Lee Bee Teik, was taken home to the Lord on 11-June-2022. She was not able to proof read this final formatted digital book. To ensure that the text represents what she intended as far as possible, the manuscript is published 'as is'.

In her struggle to define the meaning of the Spiritual Formation of a child of God, the author, Dr. Lee Bee Teik, discovered that many Christians view the process as a formal method to gain spiritual merit before God. Others ignore it as unnecessary as long as one is guaranteed a place in heaven. Yet others are confused over whether it is necessary to call the ‘drawing nearer to God’ spiritual formation. Is it not only for formally educated believers? Unable to express her faith experiences to others without causing misunderstanding, she kept her views to herself while ministering to others as best she can since her school days in Penang. Finally, in old age, she is able to briefly pit down her thoughts on paper through a book. Further, as Dr. Lee knows God through a mostly Malaysian-Chinese Christian background (family and church), there was much for her to experience and decipher as she was also influenced by English educated teachers, pastors and missionaries from the West. Is spiritual formation culture dependent?

The Significance of a Biblical Worldview

- From the Eyes of an Ordinary Believer
by Dr Lee Bee Teik
(107 pages, ~ 5x8 inches)
First Print: August 2022.

Note: The author, Lee Bee Teik, was taken home to the Lord on 11-June-2022. She was not able to proof read this final formatted digital book. To ensure that the text represents what she intended as far as possible, the manuscript is published 'as is'.

Our view of everything is shaped by our deeply held beliefs, which we acquire from the influences that acted upon us since early childhood. As we grow older and learn more of the world and ourselves, new knowledge and understanding become part of our belief system, leading us to change or moderate our earlier views.

As disciples of Jesus, who came to show us the Father and how He would do things, we who have been made in the likeness of the Father naturally want to consider Jesus’ views of God and how this Father God views His creation. We want to learn what He thinks should be the basis of our relationship with one another, the environment and most importantly, with Him. As children of God, shouldn’t we adopt His worldview and live by it?

The purpose of this book containing notes for 40 days of meditation and reflection is to draw God’s people towards a more biblical view of God so that we may enjoy His friendship without fear or disappointment, for He delights in mankind, including you and me! It will also enhance our appreciation and utter indebtedness to Christ for willing (at Gethsemane) to be made the atonement for sin (at the Cross) so that we can go home with Him (at His second coming or earlier) to our waiting Father. Grace is mercy which is not deserved and cannot be earned. Let us receive His grace by faith in Him. I hope this book will bring us to our knees to worship, love and please > Him above all else!

Practising the Presence of God

by Dr Lee Bee Teik
(141 pages, ~ 5x8 inches)
First Print: August 2022.

Note: The author, Lee Bee Teik, was taken home to the Lord on 11-June-2022. She was not able to proof read this final formatted digital book. To ensure that the text represents what she intended as far as possible, the manuscript is published 'as is'.

As you put aside more time for God over the next 42 days, enjoy His welcoming presence with no hurry. He must be so glad that you are here to give Him your attention and to listen to His gentle whispers. The Lent period is not for mere remembrance of the God who is far away but for deepening your friendship with the One who is near and within you. God is the One who so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son, so that whosoever trusts Him will not be rejected by God into eternal loneliness but be reconciled with Him so that we may know and enjoy Him forever. (Westminster Catechism)

This is a simple exercise appropriate and necessary for all believers the whole year round once one has got into the rhythm of waiting on God. But for those unfamiliar to such a spiritual discipline, this will be an initial simple manageable and gentle exercise to reduce the fat of spiritual lethargy, coupled with an aimless and joyless existence while on earth.

Deepening Joy

- A Reflection on God’s Grace by a Malaysian Christian
by Dr Lee Bee Teik
First Print: 1993, Updated Edition: 2015, Reprint: 2020
(243 pages, ~ 5x8 inches)

The Christian, not uncommonly, begins his walk with the Lord in a burst of joy. The love of God fills his heart and he revels in his new friendship with his Redeemer. As time passes, that initial joy fade and, at several points, seems to disappear altogether.

Nevertheless, the God of grace continues by his side. Through failure, discipline and disappointment, He is the Companion who succours, guides and provides. With gracious patience, He leads His child into a renewed understanding of His ways ... and into a deepening joy of knowing Him. This book reflects a renewed understanding of God's grace through the eyes of a Malaysian Christian.

Caring Is Hard Work

by Dr Lee Bee Teik
First Print: 2016, Reprints: 2018, 2020
(129 pages, ~ 5x8 inches)

Any of us in the 21st century is able to sense the need and weight of caring for the needy in church and society. In this book, Dr. Lee shares that it is therefore necessary for God's people to hear His call to care for at least those near to them, e.g. neighbours or those in His household. Many care till they are exhausted; others have the desire to do so but are directionless. Still others lack confidence or are negligent of other' welfare to the extent that someone suffer while waiting for help. She highlights the fact that this 'negligence' is not always due to a lack of love for the needy but due to several other factors which can be easily prevented or remedied e.g. burnout state, wrong methods in caring and ignorance of personal strengths and weaknesses. Her desire is that readers do not have to make the same mistakes as she had in this God given work of caring for others as Jesus cares for us!

TIMELY GRACE

- The Story of Ah Li and Sian, Overseas Chinese in Transition
by Dr Lee Bee Teik
First Print: 2016, Reprint: 2020
(166 pages, ~ 5x8 inches)

Timely Grace is based on a true story of an overseas Chinese woman and her husband, mother and children whose lives were intertwined in the fast moving history of British Malaya, Malaya and then Malaysia. Though subconsciously and consciously rooted in the deep culture of ancient China, this brave woman faced life challenges of poverty, illiteracy, prejudice, injustice, critical illness and betrayal with a courage many of today’s women shy from. Through thick and thin, Sian soldiered on to provide her best for their seven children born and bred in the milieu of rapidly modernizing and developing Malaysia. Short and vivid, this book is hard to put down once started. It will also speak to your soul. Do not judge a book by its size!

Building a love house is still hard work

- An Invitation to Think, Pray Through and Act on the Implications of Being God’s Family
by Dr Lee Bee Teik
First Print: 1996, Updated: 2016, Reprints: 2018, 2020
(205 pages, ~ 5x8 inches)

Since 1996, when Building a Love House was first published by Malaysian CARE, many things mentioned in it has changed inside and outside the Malaysian society and church. So has the global scenario. There was no September 9/11 nor the terrorists’ threat then. Immorality was not so open and rampant. Families still feel terribly embarrassed if a child goes astray. We were reasonably intact. Not so much now. I continue as a fellow apprentice in the school of life after receiving a number of blows.

Nevertheless I write again in the hope that we may recapture God's vision of a love house still. No matter how difficult building a loving home is, let us not give up. On the contrary to popular notion, we, as the people of the God who made families, will seek His grace to fulfil this task on earth while there is time. Granted, many young couples do not see much point in bringing up children in a troubled world. Who can disagree? But as long as this world exists and unless another mandate is given by our Creator, ours is still the privilege of nurturing His children for Him.

Seeing God through Ordinary Eyes

- For the Ordinary Believer
by Dr Lee Bee Teik
BYTE SIZE SOLID FOOD SERIES, First Print: 2007
(48 pages, ~ 5x8 inches)

Who are You, Lord? To know God is the reason for our existence. Christianity is knowing the living God. However, as believers, let us not forget that Christianity is not mere knowledge about God. It is also about entering into an intimate relationship with God. From this angle, knowing God means enjoying eternal friendship with the eternal Father of all mankind and with His beloved Son, Jesus (1 Corinthians 8:6; John 17:3). The Holy Spirit has been sent to help us re-enter into and develop this relationship once we have been born again into God's family. Being made in God's image, we are able to respond to and even enjoy Him forever, even if our present knowledge of Him is imperfect. We are actually living our earthly lives trying to find out more about Someone who is relevant to us, even if many of us do not yet know Him up close. Let us journey on as we ask and ponder on the question: Who are You, Lord?

A Pilgrim's Progress

- Four common Spiritual Dilemma
by Dr Lee Bee Teik
BYTE SIZE SOLID FOOD SERIES, First Print: 2007
(100 pages, ~ 5x7 inches)

Galatians 6:2,5  Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ... for each one should carry his own load. Many are the woes of humankind, and Christians do not seem to be exempted from them. When we read through the Bible, God seems to want us to know that well. Whether current personal problems are due to our personal sins, the sins of other people or to being in a broken world generally, we do agree that all of us face problems. This knowledge seems to increase as we grow older. How then do we respond to such a condition? One way is to feel defeated, grit our teeth and endure such inner struggles till all pain and sorrow will be no more. The other way is to try to understand what God may be saying to us about Him and us, about others and us and about ourselves, so that His abundant life in us will become increasingly real each day. So we pray, so read and so we ponder& May He be our Guide as we plot on along this journey of discovery together. Shalom!

From Distress to Progress

- Biblical Patterns for a Christian's Pilgrimage
by Dr Lee Bee Teik
BYTE SIZE SOLID FOOD SERIES, First Print: 2007
(28 pages, ~ 5x7 inches)

John 15:13-15 --- Greater love has no one than this, that He lay down his life for his friends. You are My friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learnt from My Father I have made known to you.

Malaysians are familiar with the concept of motifs as repeated patterns for a particular work of art. We are proud of our batik heritage. I vividly recall designing a motif on a block and then printing it on a piece of white teteron cotton in our school art class back in the 60's. A motif takes time  to design and it takes time to put into good use. Similarly, in pastoral counselling, in the hope of discovering a root cause for a specific problem, we pray and take time to look for motifs or repeated patterns in the counsellees relationships, attitudes and life generally. We want to see whether there is any habit that is consciously or subconsciously expressed so that we may pray for these undesirable habits to be reduced and, in God's mercy, be eventually removed through the renewal of the mind and the Holy Spirit's transformation
process.

Crossing Barriers with Jesus

- A case study of the Woman by the Well
by Dr Lee Bee Teik
BYTE SIZE SOLID FOOD SERIES, First Print: 2007
(28 pages, ~ 5x8 inches)

The Story Begins - Let us consider the background of the Samaritan woman whom Jesus met. The Samaritans were a mixed race descended partly from the ten tribes of Israel, and partly from non-Jewish immigrants, the Assyrians. They inherited the central Palestine of Bible times, between Judea in the south and Galilee in the north. Their faith and daily life was based on the first five books of the Old Testament alone. They rejected the rest of the other Jewish Scriptures. Consequently, due to their partial understanding of God's ways with His people, they looked forward to see, with a great deal of speculation, who the prophet mentioned in Deuteronomy 18:18 could be. Therefore, conflict points arose in the Samaritan woman's mind when she talked with Jesus, a male Jew from Judah's line.

Forgiveness and Reconciliation

- For the local church
by Dr Lee Bee Teik
First Print: 1997, Reproduced 2014
(20 pages / Used with Permission from Dr. D.A.Seamands)

Since the production of the first edition of “Forgiveness and Reconciliation” in 1997, the writer has had the joy of witnessing individuals and couples receive the fruits of their forgiveness for those who have wronged them. As they obey Christ in taking the step of forgiveness, children have been reconciled with their parents; husbands and wives, with their respective spouse; pastors with peoples; others, with colleagues, relatives and friends.  There have also been times of sorrow when she has to witness persistent unwillingness in some who are not ready to forgive others as Christ has forgiven them. Many continue to live under the burden of their brokenness. We pray that one day they will know the depth of God’s grace (undeserved and un-earnable mercy) upon them and will be willing to forgive their “oppressors” for His and their own sakes. The joy and freedom of being forgiven for resentment can only be experienced by those who have obeyed Him in forgiving others and self. May God our Father bless you as you share His grace of forgiveness with others.

This is to complement the preaching and teaching programmes of churches so that His Bride will be prepared for Him. God willing, others in our nation will also be reached and know that God really has answers to our personal, family and social dilemma and so that all will know one day that truly He is Lord. Listen to their Stories

by Dr Lee Bee Teik
First Print: 1996 (107 pages, ~ 4x7 inches)

Listen To the Stories is a simple collection of four gospel stories retold and rewritten to fit our twentieth century Malaysian Christian understanding. It is an effort which writer hopes will prove to be an encouragement and launching pad for others to also try their hand at Christian drama and creative arts. This little book of parables attempts to present Christ not as someone remote and far away, but as a person close and familiar. Readers will be pleased to see that His life story is transported into contemporary Malaysian life in a way which reflects His humanity and immediacy. Jesus is someone who loves to mingle with the thronging crowds, becoming one of them in order to show them the way home.

Listen to the Children

by Dr Lee Bee Teik
First Print: 1996
(76 pages, ~ 4x7 inches)

This is a collection of conversations to help adults look at the world from the eyes of a child. Accompanied by cartoon illustrations, it is a heart-warming peek int the innocent and not so innocent minds of children as they try to make sense of the strange adult world that surrounds them. The author has drawn out the humour and cheekiness of the children in each event she records. But the liveliness of the conversations is original to the children themsleves! Lee Bee Teik hopes her readers will be stirred to re-learn the simple faith of the child in our heavenly Father from this simple book. Furthermore, she prays that the adults reading this book will come to a deeper appreciation of the children under their care, and be encouraged to foster their spiritual and emotional development in an environment of listening acceptance and loving discipline.
